Best time to go

The most comfortable months for visiting Cairo and Giza are generally October to April, when daytime temperatures are milder and walking conditions on the plateau are easier. Summer months can be very hot, and interior access may feel more strenuous because of limited airflow and confined spaces. If possible, arrive early in the day to reduce exposure to heat and peak visitor flow. Opening hours and last admission can change seasonally or for conservation reasons, so check the official schedule before traveling. During Ramadan and major public holidays, timing and visitor levels may also differ.

02 Overview

A first look

Khufu's Pyramid is the largest of the three main pyramids on the Giza Plateau. The interior route passes through the descending passage and Grand Gallery to the King's Chamber; access requires a separate ticket and is limited daily.

Background

The facts

Khufu's Pyramid, also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza, is the largest of the three main pyramids on the Giza Plateau in Cairo. It was built for Pharaoh Khufu during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty, around 2600 BCE, and remains one of the most important surviving monuments from the Old Kingdom. The pyramid is part of the Giza pyramid complex, approximately 13 km southwest of central Cairo.

An interior ticket grants access to the internal passage system of Khufu's Pyramid, including the ascending passage, the Grand Gallery, and the King's Chamber. Visitors enter through a narrow opening on the north side and move through low, confined passages with steep ramps in places. The interior is an ancient stone structure with limited ventilation, so the experience requires physical effort and careful footing.

This ticket is separate from standard plateau access and is used for entry into the pyramid's interior only. Interior admission is typically limited and can vary by season, daily operating conditions, and conservation rules. Because crowd levels and heat can be significant on the Giza Plateau, early-morning arrival is often the most practical option.

The interior is historically significant because it preserves the core architectural layout of the largest pyramid in Giza, including construction features that have been studied for centuries. The monument is located close to the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx, making it part of the main archaeological landscape visited in Giza.

Suited to

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • This admission suits travelers with a strong interest in ancient Egyptian archaeology, Old Kingdom architecture, or the Fourth Dynasty. It is also suitable for adults and older children who are comfortable with narrow, steep, and uneven ancient stone passages.
  • Visitors who prefer self-guided site access and want to see one of Egypt's most famous internal monuments will find it most relevant. It is less suitable for anyone with mobility limitations, claustrophobia, or difficulty stooping for extended periods.

What lingers

  • 01 Admission to Khufu Pyramid interior (Great Pyramid) on the Giza Plateau; passageways are confined and unlit in places.
  • 02 Interior ticket sold separately from standard Giza Plateau entry; pyramid interior fees are not included in most site tickets.
  • 03 Low headroom, steep ramps and uneven stones: visitors with claustrophobia or limited mobility should reconsider this visit.
  • 04 Our Egyptologists brief you pre-entry on photography rules, required modest dress and the twenty to thirty minute confined visit duration.
  • 05 Unlike half-day Giza excursions, we sell Khufu interior access as an optional add-on rather than bundled automatically.

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01 Does a Khufu Pyramid interior ticket include entry to the Giza Plateau?
No. A Khufu interior ticket allows entry inside Khufu Pyramid but does not automatically include general Giza Plateau admission. The Giza Plateau gate ticket is separate in most cases; we can arrange both together on request. Pyramid interior access is sold in limited daily allocations and is sometimes closed for conservation or special events, so booking the interior separately avoids disappointments.
  2. 02 How physically demanding is going inside Khufu Pyramid?
The interior has steep, narrow passages, low ceilings and uneven limestone steps. You will stoop frequently and climb steep ramps and short flights of stone steps; temperatures can be higher inside. The visit involves close-quarter movement and brief standing periods; expect 15–30 minutes inside depending on queues. People with limited mobility, heart or respiratory conditions, or severe claustrophobia should avoid entering.
  3. 03 Can children go inside the Khufu Pyramid?
Children are allowed, but the interior can be difficult for young children due to narrow passages and steep steps. Strollers and pushchairs cannot be used inside; guardians must carry very young children. Ticket offices or site staff may refuse entry if they judge it unsafe; we advise parents to consider a short exterior visit and the Solar Boat Museum as alternatives.
  4. 04 Am I allowed to take photographs inside Khufu Pyramid?
Photography inside Khufu Pyramid is generally permitted without flash, though rules can change. Flash and tripods are typically prohibited to protect the monument; follow on-site signage and staff instructions. Security staff sometimes restrict photography in specific chambers for conservation or crowd control reasons, so expect intermittent limitations during your visit.
  5. 05 Should I pre-book the Khufu interior ticket or can I buy on arrival?
Pre-booking is strongly recommended because daily allocations for Khufu interior visits are limited. Many visitors who try to buy on arrival find allocations sold out early in the day; closures for conservation also occur without notice. We do not include the interior by default on our standard Giza arrangements; we book it separately on request to ensure allocation and timing that suit your schedule.
  6. 06 Is the Khufu Pyramid interior wheelchair accessible?
No. There are no wheelchair-accessible routes inside Khufu Pyramid; passages are narrow, sloping and involve uneven stone steps. Wheelchair users and others unable to negotiate steep, confined passages can view the pyramid exterior from the plateau and visit the nearby Solar Boat Museum instead. We can arrange a private viewing point and driver to minimise walking for guests with reduced mobility.

Abu Simbel Temples, Aswan

Abu Simbel lies about 280 km south of Aswan and is reached by a 40‑minute flight or a 3.5–4 hour road transfer. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private early flights and timed private‑car arrivals so clients avoid coach crowds and the hottest hours. The twin sites are the Great Temple of Ramesses II and the Small Temple of Nefertari, moved to higher ground between 1964 and 1968 during an international relocation campaign and included in the Nubian Monuments UNESCO listing. Trade‑offs: a same‑day return requires an early start and either a long road journey or a small‑plane seat; shade is limited on the forecourt.

Abu Simbel Temples – Sun Festival (22 Feb / 22 Oct)

See the twice-yearly solar alignment at Abu Simbel on 22 February or 22 October when sunlight reaches the inner sanctuary. The twin rock temples were carved for Ramses II and honour Amun‑Re and Ra. They were moved in 1964–1968 and form part of the UNESCO World Heritage 'Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae'. Abu Simbel is approximately 280 km south of Aswan (about 3.5 hours by road). We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and can arrange timed-entry tickets, private road transfers and an Egyptologist briefing when available. Unlike same-day coach runs, we recommend an overnight in Aswan to avoid very early road departures and rushed visits; expect limited shade at the forecourt and large crowds on festival dates.

Al-Moez Street Entry TicketCairo

Al-Moez Street Entry Ticket

Al-Moez Street is a medieval Cairo thoroughfare lined with Fatimid and Mamluk-era monuments, gates and historic façades. This admission grants access to the pedestrianised street and its visible monuments, including views toward Bab Zuweila and the Mosque of Al-Hakim. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange the ticket and send it to you by email as a PDF after booking. Unlike a museum admission, the street is an open historic quarter rather than a single indoor site, so visiting times are flexible but subject to seasonal opening hours and special events.
