Picture starting at the Pyramids of Giza at 5:30am with a private gate-open arrangement – ninety minutes on the plateau before any other visitor, just the two of you and your Egyptologist. Then drifting south on a 6-cabin dahabiya, sailing under canvas past Edfu and Kom Ombo with dinner on the sundeck under stars.
Closing days at a Red Sea villa with the reef ten steps from your terrace, or at the Sofitel Old Cataract in Aswan where the Death on the Nile film's Agatha Christie suite waits with a Nile-facing dinner on the terrace. How to choose
Three pillars decide a honeymoon shape. Each choice changes the trip's character substantially.
A dahabiya (6–12 cabins, sail under canvas) is almost always the right choice for honeymoon – the privacy and pace of a small sailing vessel make every other element of the holiday better. The 5-star Nile cruise ship (Oberoi Philae, Sanctuary Sun Boat IV – 40 to 60 cabins) is the right answer if you specifically want a pool deck and a faster sailing schedule. Two routes after the temples. The Red Sea villa (Marsa Alam or El Gouna, reef-front terrace, private plunge pool) is the most-booked honeymoon closer. The Sinai option (Dahab, St Catherine's Monastery, Mount Sinai sunrise) suits couples who'd prefer adventure to beach. Or extend the Nile itself – a 7-night dahabiya instead of a 4-night sailing.
Each honeymoon gets a handful of these built in. Private sunrise at the Pyramids (5:30am gate-open, ninety minutes alone on the plateau). Hot-air balloon over the Valley of the Kings at dawn (4:30am liftoff, champagne breakfast on landing). Felucca sunset in Aswan past Elephantine Island. Our most-booked honeymoon shape (10 days): 2 nights Cairo at Marriott Mena House with private sunrise Pyramids access → fly to Luxor for the East and West Banks → 4-night dahabiya cruise (6 cabins max, sail under canvas, dinners on deck) → 3 nights Red Sea villa at Marsa Alam or El Gouna. Tailored variants swap the Red Sea segment for Sinai, add Alexandria, or extend to a 14-day fortnight.
October through April for the comfortable Cairo / Luxor / Aswan weather window. Late October and early November combine peak Nile water levels with quieter cruise traffic – that's the planner's recommended pick. December and January are coldest at night (good for honeymooners who'd rather see temples without the heat); April lines up with Easter and one of the prettiest weather windows in Upper Egypt. We don't run honeymoon southern itineraries in July or August by default.
Almost always, yes. A dahabiya is a 6–12 cabin traditional sailing vessel – your cruise becomes effectively private to your party plus a handful of other couples. The standard 5-star Nile cruise ship carries 120–200 guests with set meal seatings and a faster schedule. Dahabiyas moor at quiet bank sites the big ships can't reach (Silsila, El Kab, Hagar Silsila), dinners are on the sun deck under stars, and the pace is set by wind not engines. Price premium: 60–100% above ship.
