Classic Egypt Holidays

A classic Egypt holiday is the itinerary British travellers have been booking for a century and still the right answer for a first visit: Cairo for the Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum, Luxor for Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, then a Nile cruise south to Aswan via the perfectly preserved temple of Edfu and the twin-deity sanctuary of Kom Ombo, finishing with Abu Simbel. Our classic Egypt holidays run at 4-star, with a private Egyptologist guide throughout, all internal flights, and all temple admissions included. The itinerary runs 7 to 10 days and is fully tailor-made from there.

The hallmarks

The hallmarks of a classic Egypt holiday

A classic Egypt holiday is the route British travellers have been booking for a century – and still the right answer for a first visit. Picture standing before the Great Pyramid of Giza at 7am before the coach groups arrive, listening to your Egyptologist explain how the limestone casing stones once shone in the Nile sun. Then flying south to Luxor for Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut.

The Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan is the experience most clients remember most – temple visits in the morning, sundowner on deck in the afternoon, Edfu and Kom Ombo as you sail. Whether you want the standard 7-day shape or a longer 10-day version with a Red Sea decompression, every day on the classic circuit is built around private guiding, all admissions, and the rhythm Egypt rewards.

How to choose

How to choose your classic itinerary

Choosing the right classic Egypt holiday comes down to how long you have and which segments matter most. Three pillars usually decide the shape.

Your travel length

Seven days is the most-booked length – Cairo + a 3-night Nile cruise + Abu Simbel. Eight to ten days lets you slow the cruise pace, add Alexandria, or finish at the Red Sea. Twelve to fourteen days unlocks the White Desert or a longer cultural sweep. Most British clients land on 7 or 10 days for a first visit.

Your accommodation tier

Classic runs from 4-star to 5-star. 4-star is the entry tier – Steigenberger Pyramids, Sonesta St. George Luxor, M.S. Concerto cruise. 5-star adds the Marriott Mena House, Sofitel Old Cataract, and a Sanctuary or Oberoi-class cruise. Suite tiers are covered under our luxury slice.

Your travel window

October through April is peak – comfortable daytime temperatures, dry, low humidity. October half-term and February half-term sell out six months ahead, as do Christmas and New Year. Easter lines up with one of the prettiest weather windows in Upper Egypt. We don't run 7-day southern itineraries in late July or August by default.

We operate this itinerary as a licensed Egyptian tour operator and can adjust embarkation points where feasible. Expect compact cabins and generous deck space for daytime sailing; plan for early starts at temples, walking on uneven ancient stone, and occasional itinerary changes when wind is light. Standard site entrance fees apply unless we state otherwise; premium tombs and pyramid interiors are extra. We recommend seven days to see key riverside sites without repeated hotel changes.

We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator, and we coordinate transfers, meet-and-assist and English-speaking Egyptologist guides for the excursions. We do not run group bus tours, excursions are private and led by an Egyptologist. Unlike many short packaged cruises that rush temple visits, this programme schedules fuller time at Edfu and Kom Ombo. Optional Abu Simbel excursions are available from Aswan on selected departures.

We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator, and our Egyptologists lead small groups of no more than eight guests per guide. Compared with larger overnight cruise operators, this itinerary keeps a steadier pace so you spend more time ashore at Edfu and Kom Ombo rather than rushing between sights. Expect riverside approaches, a late-afternoon felucca sail at Aswan, and guided visits timed to reduce crowding where possible.

We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange private airport transfers, Cairo Egyptologists and timed museum entries to match your flight times. We don't run coach-group hotel pickups; we provide private arrivals and locally guided visits to avoid morning queues. Magic I Nile Cruise

    Nile (cruise route)

Three nights aboard MS Magic I, sailing between Luxor and Aswan with guided visits to Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae. We include guided land visits led by our Egyptologist rather than relying on audio guides; this keeps group sizes small and the schedule reliable. Typical timings put two full mornings on Luxor’s West and East Banks, a daytime sail calling at Edfu and Kom Ombo, and a full day in Aswan. Standard site entrance fees are included; premium extras such as Tutankhamun’s tomb or private felucca rides are optional and charged separately. Practical trade-offs: cabins are compact, departures can start early, and temple sites have limited shade at midday. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange transfers, local crew and on-board meals.

MS Moondance is a four-day Nile cruise linking Luxor and Aswan. We arrange private Egyptologist-led visits and shore transfers as a licensed Egyptian tour operator. We don't run mass coach tours; we prefer private or small-group sailings that let you visit Karnak Temple and the Luxor West Bank at quieter times. Compared with single-day excursions from Luxor, a four-day cruise gives relaxed transit time and evening light on the Nile. Trade-offs: cabins are compact, upper decks have limited shade at midday, and some shore visits require walking on uneven ancient stone and early starts for sunrise photography.

We arrange private transfers and our Egyptologists lead all ashore visits. Unlike many larger 7-night cruises, this short cruise concentrates on principal river temples and keeps sailing time compact, which means shorter days ashore at smaller sites. Expect early starts for cooler visits and simpler onboard facilities rather than a full floating resort. Site entrance fees are included unless the itinerary states otherwise; premium tombs and gratuities are extra. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator.

    Ruby 1 Nile Cruise

    Nile (cruise route)

MS Ruby 1 is a Nile river vessel offering a four-day, three-night cruise along the Nile. We position this as a compact river option for travellers who prefer three nights aboard rather than a seven-night itinerary. Unlike longer cruises, this 4-day sailing concentrates on core river travel and normally requires earlier departures and shorter shore visits. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private transfers, luggage handling and Egyptologist-guided shore visits. Trade-offs include fewer stops ashore, more early starts for excursions, and more walking on uneven ancient stone during visits. Ask us about adding pre- or post-cruise nights in Cairo or Luxor.

Unlike many three-night packages, the fourth day allows scheduled calls at Edfu and Kom Ombo rather than rushed drive-bys. Expect organised shore visits with our Egyptologists, compact cabin layouts on most Nile vessels, and short organised walks on uneven ancient stone at shore sites. Standard site entrance fees are included unless stated; pyramid interiors, premium tombs and gratuities are excluded.

Novotel 6 October is a full-service hotel in 6th of October City, west of central Cairo. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private airport transfers, timed departures and guided excursions from this base. We often recommend it for clients with business in Smart Village; we do not usually advise it for short, first-time sightseeing stays in central Cairo because journeys to the Egyptian Museum or Khan al-Khalili commonly exceed 40 minutes in peak traffic. Expect 35–60 minutes by private car to the Giza Plateau (Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure) depending on traffic. On-site parking and quieter suburban streets are practical advantages.

    Hurghada

Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort sits on Hurghada's Red Sea coast and provides multiple outdoor pools, restaurants and family facilities. We position it as a reliable all-inclusive resort base rather than a remote boutique hideaway; its scale suits families and mid-range holidaymakers. Unlike small guesthouses on Giftun Island, most on-site activities here run throughout the day, not to a boat timetable. It can be busy in Egyptian school holidays and some room categories show wear; choose upgraded rooms for quieter locations. We can arrange private airport transfers, snorkel excursions and dive bookings with vetted local operators. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and handle confirmations and special requests.

As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange room reservations, airport and local transfers, and private Egyptologists for visits to Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple and the West Bank necropolis. We prefer land-based hotels for longer stays because they avoid daily packing and provide a consistent overnight address, unlike short Nile-cruise nights that move every day. Expect early starts for Valley of the Kings visits, possible town traffic at peak hours, and the usual hot, dry afternoons in summer.

Pickalbatros Palace Resort sits on Hurghada's Red Sea coastline. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange transfers from Hurghada International Airport (HRG), plus private snorkel and dive charters from the marina. Unlike many shuttle-based all-inclusive packages, we favour private charters so you reach reefs early and avoid crowded boat decks. Expect stronger northerly winds and busy beaches in July–August; reef moorings and snorkel sites are busiest then. For quieter sea conditions, consider April–June or September–November. We can also combine a Hurghada stay with inland excursions or a Nile extension on request.

Pickalbatros White Beach Resort is a Hurghada hotel on the Red Sea, bookable through our licensed Egyptian tour operator. We sell this property as a straightforward beach option rather than a bundled Nile-and-beach package; many clients prefer to add a separate Nile stay so each part of Egypt gets proper time. We include private airport transfers and can add diving or snorkelling excursions on request. Expect busy periods in July–August and limited shade on the shoreline at midday; we recommend early-morning snorkel trips and an early check-in when possible. Rates, room types and transfer times are confirmed at booking.

Sonesta St. George sits on Luxor’s Nile Corniche on the East Bank, a short drive from Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange private transfers, Egyptologist-guided pickups and timed-entry tickets where available. Distinctive POV: we do not run large coach arrivals; private transfers reduce waiting and help with early starts. Compared with cruise-based stays, staying on the East Bank cuts crossing time to West Bank sites in the morning. Trade-offs: Corniche traffic can be audible in road-side rooms and riverside rooms face more sun in mid-afternoon.

Cleopatra Luxury Sharm El Sheikh is a hotel in Sharm El Sheikh offering beach and pool facilities. We book this hotel on request and arrange private airport transfers and local assistance from our Sharm team. We don't sell group-bus arrival transfers for this property; we use private cars so arrival times match flights and dive bookings. Unlike remote Red Sea resorts, this hotel places guests within easy reach of shops, dive centres and evening restaurants. Some rooms face the street and can be noisy after 22:00; beachfront rooms are limited and often carry a supplement. Temperatures in summer often exceed 35°C; we recommend morning snorkeling and early transfers to avoid heat.

Distinctive POV: we avoid shared coach transfers for resort guests and prefer licensed private cars for arrivals and departures. Meals and selected drinks are included in the published all-inclusive rate. We recommend Mercure Hurghada when clients want straightforward beach time rather than a touring base; we do not position it as a starting point for multi-day archaeological travel. We arrange private transfers from Hurghada International Airport and snorkelling excursions on the Red Sea. Note: all-inclusive pricing reduces local dining choices, and evenings at the hotel can be lively – request a room away from the entertainment area if you prefer quiet.

    Aswan

Tolip Aswan is a hotel in Aswan we commonly use for practical overnight stays on land. We arrange rooms, private transfers and early check-ins where possible. We favour Tolip Aswan for short stays because it simplifies logistics; we do not bundle it with Nile cruises as standard. Unlike Nile cruise public areas, Tolip offers predictable land-based transfers and simpler luggage handling. Facilities and communal spaces are more modest than larger hotels or cruise ships, so if you require extensive leisure amenities we advise a different property. Discovery Tours Egypt is a licensed Egyptian tour operator and handles all local arrangements.

  46. Radisson Blu, Cairo

    Radisson Blu, Cairo

    Cairo

Radisson Blu in Cairo provides international-standard rooms and practical services; we book it often for arrival and departure nights. We prefer Radisson Blu when clients need predictable logistics: unlike small boutique hotels, its straightforward reception and transport options reduce risk on late or early flights. We arrange airport transfers, early check-in requests where possible, and private cars for onward Cairo sightseeing. Trade-offs: this is a business-style hotel rather than a heritage property, and you should expect standard city traffic noise rather than a quiet garden setting. Discovery Tours Egypt is a licensed Egyptian tour operator and manages local arrangements and billing.

    Jewel Sport City – Cairo

    Cairo

One-night hotel stay at Jewel Sport City in Cairo arranged by our licensed Egyptian tour operator. We position this property as a practical overnight for airport connections and early departures rather than a central sightseeing base. Unlike central Cairo hotels, it suits short stops and early flights. We arrange private transfers and meet-and-greet on request. Rooms are straightforward and functional; do expect practical amenities rather than boutique design or extensive leisure facilities. Our drivers can collect or drop you at agreed times, and B&B or room-only options are available depending on your preference.

  48. Steigenberger Cairo Pyramids Hotel (Bed & Breakfast)

Steigenberger Cairo Pyramids Hotel (Bed & Breakfast)

    Cairo

Steigenberger Cairo Pyramids Hotel is a bed-and-breakfast hotel in Giza, about 3.5 km (12-minute drive) from the Giza Plateau. We use this hotel for short Giza transfers and early starts to Khufu; unlike inner‑Cairo hotels, it typically reduces morning drive time to the plateau. Breakfast is included and we arrange airport transfers and pyramid-site excursions through our team. Selected rooms have views of the Giza Plateau; those rooms must be requested at booking as availability is limited. Peak-traffic transfers can add 20–40 minutes. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and will confirm room category and transfer times when you book.

Basma Executive Club Hotel – Aswan

    Aswan

Basma Executive Club Hotel is a straightforward city hotel in Aswan; we arrange stays here for travellers passing through the region. We use this property as a practical overnight option rather than a Nile cruise cabin. Unlike cabins on a felucca or cruise boat, hotel rooms offer conventional beds and flexible check-in times. Expect basic, functional facilities compared with larger riverside hotels; ask us for current pool, dining and Wi‑Fi details. We can add private transfers and a local Egyptologist for your onward visits to Philae Temple or to join the road transfer to Abu Simbel.

Hotel to Sharm El Sheikh International Airport Transfer

    Cairo

Private, door-to-door transfers between Sharm El Sheikh hotels and Sharm El Sheikh International Airport, with meet-and-greet and fixed prices. Typical transfer time is 20–30 minutes depending on hotel location and traffic. We use private sedans and MPVs and do not operate large shared shuttle buses. Our drivers monitor flight status, wait if your flight is delayed, and meet you in the hotel lobby with a name-board. Unlike shared shuttle services, you travel directly to the terminal without extra stops. Allow extra time for airport security and peak-hour traffic; gratuities and oversized-luggage handling are extra. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator.

    Sharm El Sheikh

We provide private and shared transfers between Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH) and all Sharm hotels. Typical transfer times are 15–40 minutes, depending on hotel location and local traffic. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and operate private cars as our standard; shared shuttles are available on request but are less convenient for guests arriving late. Your driver meets you at arrivals holding a name-board, assists with luggage and drives in an air-conditioned vehicle. We monitor flight times for delays and update pickup accordingly. Passport-control queues after busy flights can add 30–60 minutes to your door-to-door time.

    Safir Hotel Cairo

    Cairo

Safir Hotel Cairo is a centrally located hotel in Cairo, suitable for short stays and transit nights. We book Safir primarily for guests who need straightforward rooms and reliable group logistics; we do not promote it as a boutique or luxury option. Unlike hotels in Zamalek, Safir often provides easier coach parking and simpler group check-in processes. Trade-offs include fewer on-site leisure facilities than higher-tier Cairo hotels and some dated room decor; service can be slower at peak times. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we arrange the reservation, private transfers and early check-in on request.

    Hurghada

Sea Star Beau Rivage Hotel is a hotel in Hurghada on the Red Sea coast. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange room bookings, private airport transfers and local support for this property. We treat Hurghada stays as beach bases rather than full Egypt itineraries; we commonly pair them with an overland day to Luxor or a Red Sea liveaboard. Unlike cruise-led shore calls, a Hurghada hotel stay gives time for reef snorkelling at leisure. Expect strong sun and limited shade at midday; early-morning snorkels and late-afternoon beach time work best.

    Cairo

Pyramisa Cairo Hotel is a practical city hotel we can book as a base for Cairo stays. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we manage room bookings, private airport transfers and Egyptologist pickups for timed visits to the Egyptian Museum. Our distinctive point of view: we use Pyramisa for short stays and city logistics rather than leisure-focused holidays. Compared with larger Nile-side or resort hotels, expect simpler leisure facilities and a more straightforward room offering. Honest trade-offs: it is chosen for convenience and value, not for extensive spa facilities or panoramic Nile views.

Boudle Grand Pyramids Hotel – Giza

    Cairo

Boudle Grand Pyramids Hotel is a Giza hotel we book for guests visiting the Giza Plateau. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator. We do not place clients on coach-group itineraries; instead we arrange private transfers and time visits with our Egyptologists to avoid peak crowds. Some rooms have direct views of the Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure pyramids; others face the street, so request a pyramid-view room at booking. The hotel is convenient for short stays beside the plateau, but allow extra time for central Cairo sites because of local traffic.

We provide saloon cars (up to three passengers) and minivans (four-plus); please request child seats in advance. We meet you in the hotel lobby with a nameboard. Tolls are included; driver gratuity is not. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange the transfer on your behalf.

Practical questions

What clients ask about this style of holiday.

  1. 01What does a classic Egypt holiday include?

A classic Egypt holiday covers three regions: Cairo (Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx, Grand Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili bazaar), Luxor (Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple, Colossi of Memnon), and a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan (Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae Temple) with Abu Simbel as a day trip. Included: private Egyptologist guide, all internal flights, all admissions, hotel transfers and accommodation.

  2. 02How long is a classic Egypt holiday?

Seven to ten days is the standard range. Seven days covers Cairo + a 3-night Nile cruise + Abu Simbel – the most-booked first-trip length. Eight to ten days lets you slow the cruise pace, add Alexandria, or insert a Red Sea decompression at the end. 'Classic' refers to the temple-and-cruise circuit, not the duration – we run it at lengths from 5 to 15 days depending on what you'd like to fit in.

  3. 03How much does a classic Egypt holiday cost from the UK?

Classic Egypt holidays start around £1,075 per person for 7 days at 5-star with the Nile cruise included. Mid-range (4-star hotels, 5-star ship) runs £1,800–£2,800 per person. Premium classic (suite hotels, Sanctuary or Oberoi ships) is £3,200–£5,200. Add 25–35% for Christmas, New Year and the school half-terms. UK flights £450–£700 from London or the regional hubs are separate.

  4. 04Should I choose classic over luxury or family Egypt holidays?

Classic is the broadest umbrella – most first-time British visitors book classic at 5-star with a standard 5-star Nile cruise ship. Pick 'luxury' if you specifically want suite-only ships (Oberoi, Sanctuary) or sunrise Pyramids access; pick 'family' if you're travelling with children under 16 and need pace-adjustment and family rooms. For a couple or solo client doing Egypt for the first time at 4–5 star, classic is the right entry shape.

  5. 05Is a Nile cruise included on every classic Egypt holiday?

On 7-day and longer classic Egypt holidays, yes – the Nile cruise is the defining southern segment. We offer two cruise lengths: a 3-night sailing Aswan → Luxor (matches the 7-day shape) or a 4-night sailing Luxor → Aswan (matches the 8-day shape and longer). Land-only classic variants exist (Cairo + Luxor + Aswan in hotels, no ship) – see our /egypt-tours/land-only/ slice for those. The cruise is the default for first-time visitors.
