The short answer

6-Day Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab & Mount Sinai Holiday is a 6-day, 5-night trip to Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab: 5 nights in Sharm El Sheikh. It includes transfers. Prices start at £285 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).

02Overview

A first look

On this holiday you unpack once. Your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh is home for all five nights, and each day after you arrive has a single outing, leaving the rest of the day free to rest.

You snorkel and visit the Magic Lake at Ras Mohammed National Park. You climb Mount Sinai in the dark to be at the top for sunrise, then go on to St Catherine's Monastery. You watch the reef from a semi-submarine. And you spend a whole day in a jeep, taking in the Coloured Canyon, the Blue Hole and Dahab. Two of these days are long and tiring, and we tell you which as we go. We arrange the transfers, the hotel and every excursion. International flights are not included.

Field notes

From our Egyptologists

  1. 01

Wear sturdy trainers for the Mount Sinai night walk, with a warm layer and a head torch, as the summit is cold before sunrise.

  2. 02

Bring reef shoes and a UV vest to Ras Mohammed; entry points are rocky and the sun bounces hard off the water.

  3. 03

Dress modestly at St Catherine's Monastery with shoulders and knees covered, and allow time for the chapel of the burning bush.

  4. 04

In the Colored Canyon, a light scarf over your face helps with dust, and a wrist strap keeps your camera secure on the jeep ride.

Make it yours

You choose the standard of hotel when you book. Ask us about extra nights in Sharm El Sheikh, or adding Cairo or the Nile to your holiday.

Your own specialist deals with each request before you book.

Suited to

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • Fit, active travellers who want a Red Sea base and a different Sinai outing each day. Suits couples, friends and solo travellers who are happy swimming, snorkelling and walking in the dark.

Maybe not, if

  • Young children, travellers with bad knees, a heart condition or breathing problems, and anyone needing step-free access. Days 3 and 5 are long.

Honest assessment

The honest pluses and minuses, as our own team sees them after running this trip.

Highlights

  • One hotel for five nights, so no repacking
  • Four different Sinai outings: reef, mountain, boat and jeep
  • Guides, fees and snorkelling kit on the relevant days are included

Things to Consider

  • Day 3 lasts about 17 hours and includes a night climb
  • Day 5 is an 11-hour jeep day on rough tracks
  • Not suitable for young children or anyone with bad knees, heart or breathing problems

Where it fits

A good fit for active travellers who want more than the beach. Not for those who want gentle days or who cannot manage a night climb.

Worth knowing

How this compares

Many Sharm packages offer only boat days. This holiday adds a mountain at sunrise and a jeep day to Dahab, all from one hotel. Days are one excursion plus free time, apart from two long days.

  • Swimming costume and a quick-drying towel
  • Sun cream, SPF 30 or higher, ideally reef-safe
  • Sun hat and sunglasses

Children & families

Children are welcome on the hotel stay and the airport transfers, but the programme is demanding. The Mount Sinai night climb on day 3 and the 11-hour jeep day on day 5 are not right for young children. The operator confirms age limits for the climb, the semi-submarine and the snorkelling stops when you book. Hotel and excursion prices depend on the child's age and the room used, so we give you the exact figure once you tell us the age at booking.

Accessibility

Who can join this

This holiday is not suitable for travellers with limited mobility. The Mount Sinai ascent is a long walk up a rough mountain path at night, and the Coloured Canyon day includes a jeep ride on rough tracks and walking over uneven ground. Boarding the semi-submarine means a gangway and steps. We cannot promise wheelchair access at any of the excursion sites. Please tell us what you need when you book and we will say honestly which days are realistic for you.

– Responsible travel

How we travel here

Ras Mohammed, Mount Sinai and the Blue Hole area are protected places, and part of what you pay goes towards the protectorate fees. The excursion vehicles are shared with other guests, which keeps the number of vehicles down, but we make no claim about carbon savings. Guiding is by local English-speaking guides and Bedouin guides, so much of the money stays in South Sinai. We ask guests to take their rubbish with them, bring a refillable bottle and keep off the coral when snorkelling.

  • Licensed Egyptologist guides

State-licensed, and people we have worked with for years

  • Fair wages on the ground

Drivers + guides paid above market

  • Site preservation

We follow the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' site rules: marked paths, no touching reliefs

  • Local teams, real help

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01How hard is the climb up Mount Sinai?
It is the hardest part of the holiday. You walk up a rough mountain path in the dark to catch the sunrise, and the whole day lasts about 17 hours. You need to be fit, and it is not suitable for young children or for anyone with bad knees, a heart condition or breathing problems. A Bedouin guide goes with you.
  2. 02Is there something planned every day?
After day 1, each day is a single excursion with the rest of the day free. Days 3 and 5 are long and nothing else is arranged on them. Day 4 begins later in the day.
  3. 03Is snorkelling kit provided?
Yes. A mask and snorkel are included on the Ras Mohammed day and on the Coloured Canyon, Blue Hole and Dahab day. The semi-submarine needs no kit. Bring your own swimming costume and towel.
  4. 04Will we see turtles or dolphins?
Reef fish and coral are common at the snorkelling stops, but we cannot promise any particular animal. Wildlife is wild and varies from day to day. There is no dolphin trip on this holiday.
  5. 05What if the sea is rough on the semi-submarine day?
Boat trips run only when weather and sea conditions allow, and the captain can change or cancel a sailing for safety. If that happens we will talk you through your options; refunds follow our cancellation and refund policy.
  6. 06Which hotel will I stay in?
You pick a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotel for your dates. You spend all five nights in the same Sharm El Sheikh hotel.
  7. 07Will I make my international flight?
Your day 6 transfer to Sharm El Sheikh Airport is timed around your flight. If you connect through Cairo or another airport on the same day, the two tickets are separate bookings, so a delay on the first could cost you the second. Where you can, allow a night at your connection point, or choose a late-evening or night international flight. Do take travel insurance that covers missed connections.
  8. 08What is not included?
International flights, the Egyptian visa, tips for guides and drivers, meals and drinks other than those listed, and personal spending.
  9. 09What should I wear for Mount Sinai?
Warm layers and a jacket, closed shoes with good grip and a torch or head torch. It is cold at the summit before sunrise in every season. At St Catherine's Monastery, cover your shoulders and knees.
