02Overview
A first look
This holiday fits three quite different places into five days. You arrive in Cairo, with the evening free. The second day is spent at the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, and in the evening you fly to Luxor. On day 3 you see both banks of Luxor, with the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple, the Colossi of Memnon, Karnak and Luxor Temple, before flying back to Cairo.
Day 4 takes you to Alexandria. It is a long outing, around 12 hours including the drives, so it suits keen walkers. You fly home from Cairo on day 5. We organise both internal flights, every transfer, your hotels and all entrance tickets, and you pick the standard of hotel when you book.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
5 Days / 4 Nights · Cairo · Luxor · Alexandria
- 1
Our representative is waiting in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel. There is nothing planned for the rest of the day, so you can recover from the journey and be ready for tomorrow's early start. The hotel will be happy to suggest somewhere nearby for dinner.
- 2
Your English-speaking Egyptologist is with you for about eight hours. The morning is on the Giza Plateau, with the pyramids and the Great Sphinx. After lunch you go on to the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to the Tutankhamun collection and the monumental statues of the Old and New Kingdoms. Guide, entrance fees and air-conditioned transport are all included.
In the evening you are driven to Cairo Airport for the flight to Luxor, and we plan the day around the airline's schedule. A driver takes you to your hotel in Luxor.
- 3
Expect a very full day. With your Egyptologist you start on the West Bank at the Valley of the Kings, where three tombs are included, then Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon. After that you cross to the East Bank for Karnak, Egypt's largest temple complex, and Luxor Temple. Guide, entrance fees and transport between the sites are included.
You are then driven to Luxor Airport for the flight to Cairo and on to your hotel, with the sightseeing timed around the airline's schedule.
- 4
A full day, around 12 hours with the driving, so comfortable shoes are a must. Your Egyptologist meets you at your Cairo hotel and you head north to the Mediterranean. In Alexandria you descend into the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, visit the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the modern library close to where the ancient one stood, and explore the Citadel of Qaitbay on the harbour front.
Lunch is by the sea, followed by time in the Montaza Palace gardens, then it is back to Cairo. Your guide, entry to the listed sites and air-conditioned transport are included.
- 5
Breakfast at the hotel, then a private transfer to Cairo Airport, with about 90 minutes allowed for the drive. Finishing with a night in Cairo is deliberate: if an internal flight ran late earlier in the holiday, you still have a margin before your international departure.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Go to Giza early, before the heaviest coach arrivals and midday heat.
- 02
At Karnak Temple, the first light gives the clearest photographs of the hypostyle hall.
- 03
Wear shoes with grip for the Valley of the Kings steps and uneven paths.
- 04
Alexandria can feel cooler in the evening because of the coastal wind.
- 05
Carry small cash for drinks and tipping, since neither is included unless stated.

Honest assessment
The honest pluses and minuses, as our own team sees them after running this trip.
Highlights
- The pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Luxor and Alexandria in five days
- Both internal flights, transfers and entrance fees arranged for you
- A final night in Cairo protects your flight home
Things to Consider
- Days 2 and 3 each include a flight, and day 4 is about 12 hours
- Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites
- No Aswan, Abu Simbel or Nile cruise
Where it fits
A good fit if you have five days and want pharaonic sites plus the coast. If you want Aswan, Abu Simbel or a Nile cruise, choose a longer holiday.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Many operators sell Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria separately. This holiday joins them in five days with both flights, transfers and entrance fees arranged for you, and finishes with a night in Cairo so a late internal flight does not put your flight home at risk.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This holiday involves a good deal of walking around large archaeological sites, on uneven stone and sand, with steps and some narrow tomb passages. The Valley of the Kings and Karnak have long, open stretches with little shade. The Alexandria day means around 12 hours out, including the drives. Vehicles are air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us what you need when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The holiday uses two internal flights and road transfers, and vehicle types vary, so we make no claim about carbon savings. Sightseeing is led by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria, so much of what you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring a refillable water bottle and to keep their hands off the painted walls in tombs.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the internal flights included?
Yes. The flight from Cairo to Luxor on day 2 and the flight from Luxor to Cairo on day 3 are booked for you and are included in the price. International flights are not.02Will I make my flight home?
Internal and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed internal flight could cost you the connection. For that reason the holiday finishes with a night in Cairo. If you ever need to fly to Cairo and connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night departure home, and make sure your travel insurance covers missed connections.03Is the Alexandria day too long?
It is a long outing, around 12 hours including the drives, so it suits keen walkers. You have an Egyptologist, lunch by the sea and several stops. If you would rather not go, ask us about a free day in Cairo.04Are the guide and entrance fees included?
Yes. An English-speaking Egyptologist, entrance fees and transport are included on the Giza, museum, Luxor and Alexandria days, with three tombs in the Valley of the Kings.05Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotels for your dates. There are four hotel nights, three in Cairo and one in Luxor, all with breakfast. The sightseeing does not change.06Is anything planned for the first day?
No. Day 1 is your arrival, the airport transfer and a free evening. If you would like a Nile dinner cruise or another evening out, ask us.07What is not included?
International flights, the Egyptian visa, tips for guides and drivers, dinners and drinks other than those stated, the inside of the Khufu pyramid, premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's, and travel insurance.08When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around the sites. Summers are very hot, especially in Luxor, so days start early.
