7-Day Cairo, Luxor & Alexandria Holiday
Giza's pyramids, Luxor's temples and tombs, old Cairo and a day in Alexandria. Both internal flights, your hotels and an Egyptologist are included.
The short answer
7-Day Cairo, Luxor & Alexandria Holiday is a 7-day, 6-night trip to Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor: 3 nights in Cairo and 3 in Luxor. It includes domestic flights, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at £1,370 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).
02Overview
A first look
Seven days can cover a surprising amount of Egypt. You land in Cairo on day 1 and go out on a Nile dinner cruise. Day 2 is the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, with an evening flight south to Luxor. Luxor gets days 3 and 4: Karnak and Luxor Temple on the east side of the river, then the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon on the west.
On day 5 an internal flight brings you back to Cairo for a day in the old city, taking in a museum, Coptic Cairo, Islamic Cairo and the Khan El Khalili bazaar. Day 6 is a long drive to Alexandria and back. The last night is in Cairo on purpose, so a delayed flight does not threaten your journey home. We organise both flights, every transfer and your hotels. You choose the standard of hotel when you book; the sightseeing does not change.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
7 Days / 6 Nights · Cairo · Giza · Saqqara · Luxor · Alexandria
- 1
Your driver is at the arrivals hall when you land, and the journey to the hotel is private. Have a rest once you are there. Later we pick you up for a Nile dinner cruise lasting about two hours: a buffet, live entertainment and the city's lights along both banks.
- 2
An English-speaking Egyptologist guides you today, and the entrance fees and air-conditioned transport are covered. The morning belongs to Giza: the three great pyramids and the Sphinx, for which you should allow four to six hours. Lunch follows, then the Grand Egyptian Museum. From there it is to Cairo Airport and the flight to Luxor, with a driver at the other end to take you to the hotel.
The airline sets the flight time, and we plan the day around it.
- 3
Breakfast at the hotel comes first. You then spend the day on the Nile's east bank with your English-speaking Egyptologist, exploring the vast Karnak complex before moving on to Luxor Temple. Entrance fees and the vehicle linking the two sites are covered. When the visits finish, the rest of the day is free.
- 4
Today you cross to the west bank, with an English-speaking Egyptologist and your own vehicle. At the Valley of the Kings you enter three tombs, which your ticket includes. Next come the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Fees are covered, and you return to your Luxor hotel for a third night.
- 5
The day begins with a transfer to Luxor Airport and a flight to Cairo, followed by a drive to your hotel. Sightseeing is fitted around the airline's timings. With your Egyptologist you then see the Egyptian Museum at Tahrir Square, Coptic Cairo, medieval Islamic Cairo and the Khan El Khalili bazaar, with lunch at a local restaurant. The vehicle and entrance fees to the listed sites are included.
- 6
Allow about 12 hours including the drives. That makes this the longest day of the week, so it is best for good walkers. Your English-speaking Egyptologist and a private air-conditioned vehicle head for the coast. You visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, lunch beside the Mediterranean, then see the Citadel of Qaitbay and the Montaza Palace gardens.
Fees for the listed sites are covered, and you return to your Cairo hotel.
- 7
Breakfast and check-out are followed by a private run to Cairo Airport, with a transfer representative to help. Your final night was kept in Cairo deliberately, so that a late internal flight would not put your journey home at risk.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Visit the Giza Plateau early, before the strongest midday heat and heavier visitor flow.
- 02
Karnak Temple is quieter just after opening, especially around the first court.
- 03
Carry small cash for local trolley services at the Valley of the Kings if offered.
- 04
Qaitbay Citadel photographs best in late afternoon light, when the harbour is softer.
- 05
Khan El Khalili is easier to browse after lunch, when the lanes are less crowded.

Make it yours
You choose the standard of hotel when you book. Ask us about extra nights in Luxor or Cairo, a hot-air balloon flight over Luxor, or a longer holiday with a Nile cruise or Abu Simbel.

Accessibility
Who can join this
There is a great deal of walking on large archaeological sites, over uneven stone and sand, up steps and through some narrow tomb passages. The Valley of the Kings and Karnak have long, shadeless stretches. The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa have a spiral staircase, and the Citadels in Cairo and Alexandria add more steps. The Alexandria day means many hours in the vehicle. Our vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us what you need when you book and we will say honestly which parts will work.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the internal flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Luxor on day 2 and Luxor to Cairo on day 5 are booked for you and included. International flights are not.02Will I make my international flight?
Internal and international tickets are separate bookings, so a late internal flight can cost you the connection. That is why this holiday gives you two nights in Cairo after the Luxor flight. If you change the plan and fly to Cairo to connect on the same day, pick a late-evening or night international flight and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.03How long is the Alexandria trip?
Around 12 hours including the drives, so it is a long day and suits good walkers. You visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Citadel of Qaitbay and the gardens of Montaza Palace, with lunch overlooking the Mediterranean.04How much time is there at Giza?
Allow four to six hours for the Giza visit. On day 2 the Grand Egyptian Museum and the flight to Luxor come after it, so it is a full day.05Which hotels will we stay in?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels for your dates. The sightseeing is the same at every standard, and every hotel is on bed and breakfast.06Is there a Nile cruise or Abu Simbel?
No. This holiday is based in hotels and does not include a Nile cruise or Abu Simbel. Ask us about a longer holiday if you want either.07Do the guide, entrance fees and transport cost extra?
No. On every sightseeing day an English-speaking Egyptologist, the entrance fees to the listed sites and the transport are all included.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals not listed, the inside of the Khufu pyramid and premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's.09Is the sightseeing private?
Yes. Your Egyptologist and driver are yours alone on the sightseeing days and for the transfers.10When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around the sites. Summers are very hot, especially in Luxor, so days begin early.
