5-Day Cairo & Luxor Holiday with Internal Flights

Giza, the Sphinx, Saqqara and Memphis, then an internal flight to Luxor for Karnak, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings. Flights, hotels, transfers and an Egyptologist are all included.

The short answer

5-Day Cairo & Luxor Holiday with Internal Flights is a 5-day, 4-night trip to Cairo and Luxor: 3 nights in Cairo and 1 in Luxor. It includes domestic flights, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at £962 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).

02Overview

A first look

With only five days, it helps to keep the route tight. You arrive in Cairo, head to Luxor in the middle of the week, and return to Cairo for the final night. Your first evening is free. Day 2 is a single full day with your own Egyptologist: the pyramids at Giza, the Sphinx, then Memphis and Saqqara, with lunch along the way.

On day 3 you fly south to Luxor and spend the rest of the day at Karnak and Luxor Temple on the East Bank. Day 4 belongs to the West Bank: the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon, before you fly back to Cairo. We keep that last night in Cairo on purpose, so a late internal flight does not put your journey home at risk. We organise both flights, all the transfers and your hotels. You pick the standard of hotel when you book; the sightseeing is the same whichever you choose.

Field notes

From our Egyptologists

  1. 01

Go to Giza early, before heat haze builds over the plateau.

  2. 02

Khan el-Khalili is usually calmer just after opening.

  3. 03

Use the first entry slot at the Valley of the Kings if you can.

  4. 04

Carry small cash for toilets and bottled water at site entrances.

  5. 05

For mosque visits in Cairo, keep shoulders and knees covered and bring socks.

Tailor it

Make it yours

You choose the standard of hotel when you book. Ask us about extra nights in Luxor or Cairo, adding Abu Simbel, or a hot-air balloon flight over Luxor.

Your own specialist deals with each request before you book.

Suited to

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • First-time visitors who want to see Cairo and Luxor on a short break. Suits couples, friends and solo travellers who are happy with two short flights and several hours of walking on sightseeing days.

Maybe not, if

  • Travellers who need step-free access to every site, or who prefer a leisurely pace. Day 2 runs to about eight hours, and days 3 and 4 pair sightseeing with a flight.

Honest assessment

The honest pluses and minuses, as our own team sees them after running this trip.

Highlights

  • The pyramids, Saqqara, Memphis and Luxor's main sites in five days
  • Both internal flights and all transfers arranged for you
  • A last night in Cairo before you fly home

Things to Consider

  • Long days 2 to 4, with a flight on days 3 and 4
  • Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites
  • No Nile cruise and no Abu Simbel

Where it fits

A good first visit to Egypt when time is short. There is no Nile cruise and no Abu Simbel, so add nights or choose a longer holiday if they are on your list.

Worth knowing

How this compares

Cairo and Luxor are often sold as separate trips. This holiday joins them in five days, with both flights, a guide and every transfer booked for you. The hotel standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Children are welcome. Each child has a seat in the vehicle, so transport, guiding and meals are charged at the adult rate at any age. Entrance tickets are free for children under 6 and full price from 6. Hotel prices depend on the child's age and the room used, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us the age at booking. Day 2 is around eight hours out and days 3 and 4 include a flight, so they are long for young children.

Accessibility

Who can join this

This holiday involves a good deal of walking around large archaeological sites, on uneven stone and sand, with steps and some narrow tomb passages. Giza, Saqqara, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings have long, open stretches with little shade. Vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us what you need when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.

– Responsible travel

How we travel here

The holiday uses two short internal flights and private road transfers, and vehicle types vary, so we make no claim about carbon savings. Sightseeing is led by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo and Luxor, so a good share of what you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring a refillable water bottle and to keep their hands off the painted walls in tombs.

  • Licensed Egyptologist guides

State-licensed, and people we have worked with for years

  • Fair wages on the ground

Drivers + guides paid above market

  • Site preservation

We follow the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' site rules: marked paths, no touching reliefs

  • Local teams, real help

Our own offices in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01Are the internal flights included?
Yes. The flight from Cairo to Luxor on day 3 and the flight from Luxor to Cairo on day 4 are booked for you, with a 23 kg bag each. The airline sets the flight times. International flights are not included.
  2. 02Will I catch my flight home?
Internal and international tickets are separate bookings, so a late internal flight can make you miss the connection. For that reason the holiday ends with a last night in Cairo, which is there as a safety window. If you change the plan and fly into Cairo to connect on the same day, book a late-evening or night international flight and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.
  3. 03Is there a Nile cruise on this holiday?
No. You stay in hotels in Cairo and Luxor. If you would like to cruise on the Nile, ask us about a longer holiday.
  4. 04Which hotels will we stay in?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotels for your dates. You spend two nights in Cairo, one in Luxor and a last night in Cairo, all with breakfast. Sightseeing is identical at every standard.
  5. 05How long is the Giza, Saqqara and Memphis day?
Around eight hours with your Egyptologist, from hotel pickup to the drive back. It is a long day on foot, so it suits good walkers. Lunch is included.
  6. 06Is day 4 too busy?
It is a long one, with around six hours on the West Bank and then a flight to Cairo. We plan the sightseeing around your flight time. If you want a gentler pace, ask us about adding a night in Luxor.
  7. 07Are the guide, entrance fees and transport included?
On every sightseeing day a licensed Egyptologist and air-conditioned transport are included. Entrance fees are covered for Karnak, Luxor Temple and three tombs in the Valley of the Kings. If you want to know about entry to any other site, ask when you book and we will confirm it.
  8. 08Does the holiday include Abu Simbel?
No, it is not part of this itinerary. Ask us if you would like it added and we will explain the options.
  9. 09What is not included?
International flights, the Egyptian visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, extras such as going inside the Great Pyramid or visiting premium tombs, and travel insurance.
