12-Day Egypt Holidays

Twelve days unlocks the secondary destinations a 10-day holiday can't fit: Alexandria as more than a day trip (2 nights), the White Desert overnight at Bahariya, or a longer Red Sea segment for serious diving. At 10 days you pick one of these extensions; at 12 days you can usually run two. If you want both temples and proper time at a single non-Nile destination, 12 days is the threshold.

Private 12-day Egypt holidays start around £2,200 per person at 5-star with the Nile cruise included. Mid-range (4-star hotels, 5-star ship) runs £2,900–£4,200. Premium tier (suite hotels, dahabiya, Oberoi-class ships) is £5,300–£8,900 per person. White Desert overnight adds £200–£330, Red Sea extension £250–£550 per person. Add 25–35% for Christmas, New Year and the school half-terms.

If desert landscapes pull you more than another temple day, yes – the chalk formations of the White Desert (Sahara el Beyda) are unlike anything else on the standard Egypt circuit, and the camp dinner under the stars near Crystal Mountain is one of the most-remembered nights our British clients report. It's a 5-hour drive each way from Cairo via Bahariya, which is why 12 days is the minimum to include it without rushing.

Yes – 12 days lets you do Alexandria as a proper 2-night stay rather than a Cairo day trip. That unlocks the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa at unhurried pace, an evening on the corniche, breakfast at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and a slower lunch at Abou Ashraf or the Greek Club. The 2-night Alexandria shape is the most-booked use of 12 days over 10 for UK culture-first travellers.

October to April for the temples and Nile cruise – comfortable daytime temperatures and dry. If you're adding the White Desert, December and January nights are coldest at the desert camp (4°C or below) but the sky is clearest. If you're adding the Red Sea, water temperatures hold 25–29°C year-round. We avoid running 12-day southern itineraries in July and August by default; Cairo plus Mediterranean variants run fine.
