02Overview
A first look
If you only have a long weekend, this holiday makes the most of it. You arrive in Cairo and spend the first evening on a Nile dinner cruise with a live show. The second day is given to the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, and in the evening you fly south to Luxor.
The third day covers both banks of Luxor: the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon, then Karnak and Luxor Temple. That night you fly back to Cairo, and you leave the following morning. The pace is brisk, so it suits people who enjoy a packed itinerary and don't mind early starts. We organise both internal flights, every transfer, your hotels and all entrance tickets.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
4 Days / 3 Nights · Cairo · Giza · Luxor
- 1
Our representative is waiting in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel, where you can rest after the journey. Later you are collected for a Nile dinner cruise: roughly two hours afloat with a buffet dinner and a live show, and the city lit up along the water. A private transfer brings you back to the hotel.
- 2
Your English-speaking Egyptologist spends about eight hours with you. The morning belongs to the Giza Plateau, with the pyramids and the Great Sphinx. After lunch you go on to the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to the Tutankhamun collection and the monumental statues of the Old and New Kingdoms. Guide, entrance fees and air-conditioned transport are all included.
In the evening you are driven to Cairo Airport for the flight to Luxor, and we plan the day around the airline's schedule. A driver then takes you to your hotel in Luxor.
- 3
Expect a very full day. With your Egyptologist you start on the West Bank at the Valley of the Kings, where three tombs are included, then Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon. You then cross to the East Bank for Karnak, Egypt's largest temple complex, and Luxor Temple. Guide, entrance fees and transport between the sites are included.
You are then driven to Luxor Airport for the flight to Cairo and on to your hotel, with the sightseeing timed around the airline's schedule.
- 4
Breakfast at the hotel, then a private transfer to Cairo Airport, with about 90 minutes allowed for the drive. Ending the holiday with a night in Cairo is deliberate: if an internal flight runs late the day before, you still have a margin before your international departure.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Visit the Giza Plateau early, before stronger heat and coach arrivals build up.
- 02
At Karnak Temple, morning light is best for the first court and the avenue approach.
- 03
Carry small cash in the Valley of the Kings for optional tomb upgrades not included in standard entry.
- 04
For the dinner cruise, choose a window seat if you want Nile and skyline views during boarding.
Tailor it
Make it yours
You choose the standard of hotel when you book. Ask us about extra nights in Cairo or Luxor, adding Aswan or a Nile cruise, or a hot-air balloon flight over Luxor.

Suited to
Is this for you?
Yes, if
- Travellers with only four days who want the best of Cairo and Luxor. Suits couples, friends and solo travellers who are happy with early starts, two short flights and several hours on their feet on sightseeing days.
Maybe not, if
- Travellers who need step-free access to every site, or who prefer a slow pace. Days 2 and 3 are very full.
Honest assessment
The honest pluses and minuses, as our own team sees them after running this trip.
Highlights
- The pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings in four days
- Both internal flights, transfers and entrance fees arranged for you
- A final night in Cairo protects your flight home
Things to Consider
- Days 2 and 3 are long and each includes a flight
- Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites
- No Aswan, Abu Simbel or Nile cruise
Where it fits
A good fit if you have four days and want the headline sites. If you want Aswan, Abu Simbel or a Nile cruise, choose a longer holiday.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Many operators sell Cairo and Luxor as separate day trips or as a longer package. This holiday joins them in four days with both flights, transfers and entrance fees arranged for you, and ends with a night in Cairo so a late internal flight does not put your flight home at risk.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This holiday involves a good deal of walking around large archaeological sites, on uneven stone and sand, with steps and some narrow tomb passages. The Valley of the Kings and Karnak have long, open stretches with little shade, and the Grand Egyptian Museum is vast, with long distances between galleries. Vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us what you need when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The holiday uses two internal flights and private road transfers, and vehicle types vary, so we make no claim about carbon savings. Sightseeing is led by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo and Luxor, so much of what you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring a refillable water bottle and to keep their hands off the painted walls in tombs.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the internal flights included?
Yes. The flight from Cairo to Luxor on day 2 and the flight from Luxor to Cairo on day 3 are booked for you and are included in the price. International flights are not.02Will I make my flight home?
Internal and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed internal flight could cost you the connection. For that reason the holiday finishes with a night in Cairo. If you ever need to fly to Cairo and connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night departure home, and make sure your travel insurance covers missed connections.03Are the guide and entrance fees included?
Yes. An English-speaking Egyptologist, entrance fees and transport are included on the Giza, museum and Luxor sightseeing days, with three tombs in the Valley of the Kings.04Are the second and third days too much?
They are full. Day 2 is about eight hours of sightseeing followed by a flight, and day 3 covers both banks of Luxor before a flight back. Most people who book four days accept that in exchange for seeing both cities. Ask us if you would like an extra night.05Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotels for your dates. There are three hotel nights, two in Cairo and one in Luxor, all with breakfast. The sightseeing does not change.06What happens on the Nile dinner cruise?
It is an evening cruise of around two hours on the Nile in Cairo, with a buffet dinner and a live show. A private transfer takes you there from your hotel and back.07What is not included?
International flights, the Egyptian visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks other than those stated, the inside of the Khufu pyramid, premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's, and travel insurance.08When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around the sites. Summers are very hot, especially in Luxor, so days start early.
