Asked & answered
Frequent questions
-
01 How long is the drive from Cairo to Alexandria?
The Cairo–Alexandria drive is approximately 220 kilometres and takes about 2.5–3 hours each way. Travel time depends on traffic and route (desert highway versus coastal road); we recommend an early departure to avoid Greater Cairo rush hours. Our drivers are experienced on both routes and we plan a comfort stop en route. -
02 Which sites does the Alexandria overnight normally include?
Typical sites are Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, Fort Qaitbay, Pompey's Pillar and Montaza Gardens. We tailor the order by opening hours and your interests; some visits (for example, a guided reading-room session at the Bibliotheca) may require prior ID and a small supplement. Standard entrance fees are included unless we state otherwise at booking. -
03 Are entrance fees, meals and gratuities included?
Standard site entrance fees are included; optional extras and personal gratuities are excluded. When we arrange the overnight we normally include one dinner and one breakfast in Alexandria; lunches and drinks are usually not included unless specified. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and confirm all inclusions clearly on your booking invoice. -
04 Is the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa accessible for wheelchair users?
No – the Catacombs have steep stone steps, narrow passages and uneven flooring and are not wheelchair accessible. The site also has low lighting and some slippery surfaces; visitors with limited mobility should plan for assistance. We can substitute exterior viewpoints and other flatter sites if required, and our team will advise realistic alternatives before you travel. -
05 Why do you recommend an overnight rather than a same-day return?
An overnight avoids the return drive in rush hour and gives quieter site visits the following morning. We prefer overnight visits because they allow an afternoon at the Bibliotheca and sunset at Montaza, rather than a rushed coach turnround; we operate private transfers and small groups rather than large coach day trips. Trade-offs are an extra hotel night and modest additional cost compared with a single long day. -
06 What should I bring and wear for an Alexandria overnight?
Bring sun protection, comfortable walking shoes and a light jacket for the Mediterranean breeze. For mosque visits (for example Abu al‑Abbas al‑Mursi) bring modest clothing and women a headscarf; carry small cash for local vendors and a torch for darker areas of the catacombs. Expect cobbles, steps and some uneven ground–comfortable footwear matters more than formal attire.
