Best time to go
The best months are October to April, when Cairo is cooler and Hurghada is comfortable for outdoor activities and snorkelling. June to August is hot, especially in Cairo, although the Red Sea coast remains more manageable than inland sites. During Ramadan and major public holidays, opening hours and traffic patterns can change, so advance planning is advisable.

02Overview
A first look
Early light throws a thin shadow from Khufu's pyramid across the Giza Plateau, the limestone still cool underfoot while the city's traffic becomes a distant hum. A walk along Al Muizz Street moves from carved wooden doors to spice-scented stalls in Khan El Khalili, moments that feel lived-in rather than staged, and the sea breeze of the Red Sea is a clear contrast when you reach Hurghada a few days later.
Our Egyptologists talk through construction techniques, urban layers and museum displays as we move between sites, and we arrange all transfers and meet-and-assist services. We do not run large coach-group departures, so every booking is private and timed to reduce queuing.
Background
The facts
This 7-day Egypt itinerary combines guided sightseeing in Cairo with time on the Red Sea in Hurghada. The route includes the Giza Pyramids Complex on the Giza Plateau, the Great Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Saqqara, Old Cairo, and two days in Hurghada for desert and sea activities. Domestic flights connect Cairo and Hurghada, reducing overland travel time between the Nile Delta and the Red Sea coast.
In Cairo, the Giza Plateau is the main Pharaonic site, with the Great Pyramid of Khufu dating to the 4th Dynasty around 2600 BCE. Saqqara, about 30 km south of central Cairo, contains the Step Pyramid of Djoser, one of the earliest large-scale stone monuments in Egypt. The Grand Egyptian Museum houses major New Kingdom collections, including material associated with Tutankhamun, while the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir remains important for older display collections.
Old Cairo visits typically include the Salah El Din Citadel, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Al Muizz Street, and Khan El Khalili Bazaar. Al Muizz Street is one of the best-preserved historic streets in Islamic Cairo, with Fatimid, Mamluk, and Ottoman-era monuments concentrated in a walkable district. The itinerary is private, so timing at major attractions can be adjusted around traffic, heat, and peak visitor periods.
Hurghada is a Red Sea resort city known for beaches, reef access, and desert excursions. A quad safari usually takes place in the desert fringe outside the city, while snorkelling excursions commonly visit shallow reef areas by boat. The Cairo-to-Hurghada and return flights make this a practical land-and-sea itinerary for travelers who want both monuments and downtime within one week.

Worth knowing
How this compares
Unlike a Cairo-only sightseeing trip, this itinerary combines the main monuments of the capital with Red Sea leisure time in one booking. Unlike large coach departures, it is private and uses pre-arranged domestic flights and transfers, which reduces waiting time between major sightseeing days. Compared with a full Nile cruise holiday, it focuses on land-based hotel stays and a shorter, more flexible route between Cairo and Hurghada.

Who can join this
We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange meet-and-assist on arrival, transfers and Egyptologist-led sightseeing. Expect uneven ancient stone, loose sand, cobbled streets and steep steps at key sites such as the Giza Plateau and Saqqara; these require brisk walking and careful footing. Vehicles are standard-height, air-conditioned minibuses with step-up entry; they are not low-floor coaches. The Hurghada snorkelling excursion and the quad safari include short boat transfers and moving over sandy tracks. Wheelchairs can be used for hotel transfers and many hotel areas, but access at archaeological sites is limited: Khufu pyramid interior and many tombs have narrow passages and stairs, and some temple approaches have steps without ramps. If you use a mobility scooter, bring a compact manual wheelchair for site visits. Please contact us at booking with details of mobility needs and flight arrival time; we will confirm what assistance we can provide on the ground and which sites are feasible for your party.

Children & families
Children aged five and above may join this seven-day tour, sharing a room with parents at the per-person sharing rate. Child pricing and any reductions vary by hotel and supplier, so please give ages at booking and we will confirm the exact quote. The quad safari operator requires vehicle drivers to be at least 16 years old; younger children may travel as passengers with an accompanying adult. The snorkelling excursion accepts children but requires competent swimmers or an adult companion; life vests are provided. Strollers work well in hotels and marina areas but are difficult to use at archaeological sites because of steps and uneven surfaces. Advise us of ages and any special requirements when you book so we can confirm activity permissions and safety rules.

How we travel here
We arrange ground transport in modern, air-conditioned minibuses that typically seat 16 passengers or fewer, leased from local transport companies. The Cairo to Hurghada sector is flown on scheduled domestic carriers to reduce total travel time on this seven-day itinerary. Snorkelling excursions use small motorboats run by licensed Hurghada boat operators; the quad safari uses petrol ATVs operated by a local desert tour company. We contract local Egyptologists, drivers and activity teams so income stays in the communities visited. Where possible we ask hotels to provide reusable water-bottle refill points, and we request waste separation on boats and at picnic stops. If you want the names of the specific suppliers we plan to use on your dates, request the supplier list at booking and we will share it.
