02Overview
A first look
A great many Nile cruises end in Luxor, while most flights home leave from Cairo. This short stay bridges the gap. A driver takes you from Luxor to the airport, and when you land in Cairo another meets you and drives you to your hotel for the night.
In the morning you have breakfast and are taken to Cairo Airport for your onward flight. There is no sightseeing, which is the point: it is a calm night between a busy cruise and a long journey. You pick the standard of hotel when you book.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
2 Days / 1 Night · Luxor · Cairo · Cairo International Airport
- 1
You are collected in downtown Luxor and driven to Luxor Airport for the flight to Cairo. At Cairo Airport a representative meets you, helps with your bags and takes you to your hotel, around an hour's drive. The rest of the day is yours, and there are no meals included.
The night in Cairo is there on purpose, as a buffer: if the flight from Luxor runs late, your international flight is still a day away.
- 2
After breakfast at the hotel you check out. A private vehicle takes you to Cairo Airport, leaving about 90 minutes for the drive and for check-in, and a transfer representative helps with your luggage. Your stay ends here.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Ask for an early check-in note if your Luxor transfer arrives before midday.
- 02
Keep a small overnight bag with charger, medication and flight documents, not your full luggage.
- 03
If you add the Giza Plateau in the evening, plan for cooler light after 4pm.
- 04
Cairo traffic is heaviest late afternoon, so airport transfers work best with margin.
- 05
Carry modest clothing if you want to add a mosque visit in Cairo.
Tailor it
Make it yours
Ask about extra nights in Cairo, a guided day at the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, or a day trip to Alexandria.
Your own specialist deals with each request before you book.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Is the flight from Luxor to Cairo included?
The stay covers the transfers at each end and the hotel night. The flight itself is not listed as part of it, so we will confirm at booking whether it is included or needs booking separately.02Is there any sightseeing?
No. It is a resting place between your cruise and your flight home. If you would like to see the Giza Pyramids or the Grand Egyptian Museum, ask us about adding a day.03Which hotel will we stay in?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotel for your dates.04Which meals are included?
Breakfast on day 2. Nothing is included on day 1, so your evening is free.05How far is the hotel from Cairo Airport?
Around an hour by road, depending on traffic and where in the city your hotel is.06What is not included?
International flights, the Egyptian visa, tips for drivers and hotel staff, meals other than breakfast on day 2, and any sightseeing.07Could we stay longer in Cairo?
Yes. Tell us how many nights you would like and what you want to see, and we will price a longer stay with guided days.08Will I make my flight home?
Your internal flight and your international flight are separate bookings, so a late flight from Luxor could make you miss a same-day connection. That is the reason for the night in Cairo, which gives you a buffer. If you have to fly to Cairo and leave the same day, book a late-evening or night international flight, and check that your travel insurance covers a missed connection.
