Best time to go
The most comfortable months are October to April, when daytime temperatures in Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan are typically milder and sightseeing is easier. May to September can be very hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, so early departures and shaded breaks matter more. During Ramadan and major holidays, opening hours and traffic patterns may change, so timings should be confirmed in advance.

02 Overview
A first look
By dawn on the Giza Plateau, the limestone is cool underfoot and the block courses of Khufu and Khafre take on sharp relief while the Sphinx throws a long shadow. You move from the quieter rooms of the Egyptian Museum to the steady rhythm of the Nile, stepping from a hotel lobby onto a shaded deck as the river slows the day.
Our Egyptologists lead each visit and we arrange domestic flights, timed transfers and airport assistance so you do not carry luggage between sections. We do not run group bus tours; instead we schedule visits, including Abu Simbel, to avoid the busiest hours.
Background
The facts
This 8-day Egypt itinerary combines three hotel nights in Cairo with four nights on a Nile cruise arranged between Luxor and Aswan. It begins with airport meet-and-assist at Cairo International Airport, then moves to the Giza Plateau, where the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure stand west of modern Cairo, about 13 km from the city center. The Cairo portion also includes the Egyptian Museum, which houses major Pharaonic collections.
The program continues with a domestic flight from Cairo to Luxor, followed by embarkation on the cruise vessel in Luxor. On the East Bank, the main temple complex is Karnak, built and expanded from the Middle Kingdom through the Ptolemaic period, and Luxor Temple, which is linked to the ancient city of Thebes. On the West Bank, the Valley of the Kings contains royal tombs from the New Kingdom, including the burial area associated with Tutankhamun; some premium tomb entrances are not included unless requested.
While the vessel sails south, guided stops are made at Edfu and Kom Ombo. Edfu Temple, dedicated to Horus, was built mainly between 237 and 57 BC during the Ptolemaic period, while Kom Ombo is a double temple associated with Sobek and Horus the Elder. In Aswan, the itinerary includes the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk, both standard sightseeing stops in the city.
The final excursion is to Abu Simbel, approximately 280 km southwest of Aswan near the Sudan border. The twin rock-cut temples of Ramses II and Nefertari were originally completed in the 13th century BC and were later relocated during the 1960s UNESCO salvage campaign to avoid flooding from Lake Nasser.

Worth knowing
How this compares
Unlike a land-only Egypt tour, this package includes both Cairo hotel nights and a Nile cruise section, which reduces overland travel between Upper Egyptian cities. Compared with a large group departure, it uses private transfers and a dedicated Egyptologist, so site timing and pacing are more controlled. It also differs from a simple cruise-only itinerary because it begins with Cairo’s major monuments before moving south to Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan, and Abu Simbel.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This 8-day Cairo and Nile Cruise Tour requires moderate mobility. Expect uneven ancient stone, cobblestones, loose sand, narrow tomb passages and steps at the Valley of the Kings, temple approaches and the Giza Plateau. Boarding the four-night Nile cruise uses a short gangway with one or two steps; crew can assist but the gangway may be steep at low Nile water levels. Transfers use air-conditioned vehicles; some hotels and cruise public areas have ramps and elevators, but many archaeological sites have unrailed stairs and limited handrails. Wheelchair users should bring a folding, travel-friendly wheelchair for transfers and streets with uneven paving. Contact us in advance with full mobility details so we can plan accessible routes, request site assistance where available, and provide a named Egyptologist or representative with practical guidance. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and will be frank about which sites we can reasonably include given mobility needs.

Strollers are practical at modern hotels and on flat promenades, but historic sites, the Valley of the Kings and many temple approaches have uneven surfaces and steps where strollers are impractical. High chairs and infant equipment on the cruise are not guaranteed; please request any child equipment at time of booking so we can request them from suppliers and confirm availability.

How we travel here
We use air-conditioned minibuses and coaches meeting Euro-5 emissions standards for all transfers and sightseeing, choosing smaller vehicles when narrow streets or small groups make sense. The four-night Nile cruise is operated by a local cruise company; they follow linen-reuse prompts and limit daily cabin cleaning on request to reduce laundry loads. We contract Egyptologists and drivers who live in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, keeping fees and work local. For meals and provisions we prioritise local vendors and small suppliers in each port city, subject to availability. We discourage single-use plastics on excursions by advising refill points and recommending reusable bottles; water is available at scheduled stops. If you request community visits or village projects we will provide verifiable partner details and direct payment routes so benefits reach the hosts.
