Best time to go

The package is designed around the 2027 solar eclipse, so availability and local crowd levels may be significantly affected by the eclipse date and related travel demand. Egypt’s cooler sightseeing season generally runs from October through April; daytime temperatures in Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan are often more comfortable than in summer, but travellers should verify the eclipse location, forecast, Ramadan dates, and public-holiday schedules before booking.

  • Discovery Tours Egypt is a licensed Egyptian tour operator.
  • Discovery Tours Egypt is Class-A licensed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism.
  • The company is a member of the Egyptian Travel Agents Association, ETAA #718.
  • Included sightseeing is led by an Egyptologist guide.
  • Discovery Tours Egypt arranges the hotels, transfers, and third-party Nile cruise vessel; it does not own or operate the vessel or hotels.
  • Standard entrance fees for included sightseeing are covered, while premium admissions and gratuities are identified separately.

02Overview

A first look

At first light, the Nile reflects the pale sky beyond Luxor, while your cruiser eases into the slower pace of river travel. From the deck, cultivated banks give way to desert, then to the carved stone of Karnak Temple, Edfu Temple and Kom Ombo Temple. On land, Cairo brings a sharper contrast: traffic, museum galleries and the open space of the Giza Plateau before the river takes over.

The 2027 solar eclipse provides the journey’s organising point, although the final viewing site and conditions depend on the confirmed date. We arrange the hotels, private vehicles, cruise cabin and sightseeing, with our Egyptologists explaining each visit and the practical eclipse plan as details are finalised.

Background

The facts

This 8-day Egypt package begins and ends in Cairo and includes Cairo sightseeing, domestic transfers, and accommodation aboard an arranged 5-star Nile cruise vessel. The cruise route travels south from Luxor to Aswan and includes sightseeing at Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Colossi of Memnon, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s temple, Edfu Temple, Kom Ombo Temple, and selected Aswan monuments.

In Cairo, the itinerary includes the Giza Plateau with the Pyramids and Great Sphinx, together with the Grand Egyptian Museum. The Cairo-to-Luxor and Aswan-to-Cairo air transfers are not included unless added to the booking. Cairo accommodation is provided on a bed-and-breakfast basis; meals and drinks on the cruise or at hotels are included only where stated in the final programme.

Luxor’s Karnak Temple complex is on the east bank of the Nile and contains the Great Hypostyle Hall and Sacred Lake. Luxor Temple is also on the east bank. On the west bank, the Valley of the Kings includes three standard tomb visits, while the Colossi of Memnon and Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut are included sightseeing stops. Premium tombs and pyramid interiors require separate arrangements.

Southbound sightseeing includes Edfu Temple, dedicated primarily to Horus, and Kom Ombo Temple, which has a distinctive double sanctuary. In Aswan, the programme includes Philae Temple, the High Dam, and the Unfinished Obelisk. The eclipse viewing date, final vessel, hotels, and precise sightseeing sequence should be confirmed in the final programme; certified eclipse-viewing protection is not included.

How we travel here

We arrange road transfers between Cairo and Luxor, transport for sightseeing and boat access to Philae Temple. The cruise combines river travel with visits along the Nile route, although fuel use, waste handling and onboard purchasing depend on the individual cruise provider. Our arrangements use Egyptian Egyptologists, drivers, cruise suppliers and other local businesses, keeping spending in the destinations visited. We do not claim carbon neutrality or environmental certification for this trip. A refillable bottle, sensible water use and careful disposal of rubbish help reduce avoidable waste. Please follow site rules and do not touch ancient stonework.
