02Overview
A first look
This is a private half-day excursion to two less visited sights near Aswan. Your Egyptologist guide collects you at 08:00 from your hotel or cruise boat, and you drive to the harbour beside the High Dam. A private motorboat takes you across Lake Nasser to Kalabsha island, where you see Kalabsha Temple, the Kiosk of Qertassi and the small temple of Beit el-Wali. You then drive into town for the Nubian Museum. You are back at about 13:00. Because these sights are off the main Aswan route, it is usually quiet and the pace is easy.

Frequent questions
01Is this a private excursion?
Yes. Your party has its own car, boat and Egyptologist. Up to 12 people can travel in one party.02Why is Kalabsha Temple on an island?
When the High Dam was built, the rising waters of Lake Nasser threatened the temple. It was taken apart and rebuilt on higher ground on this island in the 1960s. Your guide explains the story on site.03Does the price cover lunch?
No. The excursion ends at about 13:00, and your guide can suggest a place for lunch in Aswan if you would like one.04How long is the boat crossing?
It is a short crossing of around 15 minutes each way in a small motorboat.05What should I wear?
Wear light clothes that cover your shoulders and knees, and comfortable shoes for the uneven temple ground. Bring a hat and sun cream, as there is not much shade.06How does cancelling work?
Cancel three or more days before for a full refund. Cancel one or two days before and we refund half. There is no refund on the day or if you miss your pick-up.

Visit a Nubian village near Aswan on a private boat crossing; included are a guided village walk, a home visit, and tea with a local family. You cross the Nile by motorboat or felucca to reach the village. We do not run coach-load excursions; we use private boats and a local Nubian guide employed through our operations, keeping groups deliberately small. Unlike large cruise-ship shore calls, our visit stays ashore longer and includes a hosted conversation with residents. Expect narrow sandy lanes, uneven steps and limited shade at midday; the visit involves modest walking and some standing.
