Detailed itinerary
- 1
On arrival at Luxor airport or railway station, your Egyptologist guide takes you sightseeing in Luxor for the day: the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon and Karnak Temple. You're then driven to Esna to board your dahabiya, welcomed by the crew for your first night moored there.
- 2
Breakfast at your leisure as the dahabiya sails towards Edfu, arriving around midday. Visit the Temple of Horus by horse-drawn caleche — among Egypt's largest and best-preserved monuments, its entrance guarded by two granite falcon statues — then wander the bazaar for spices, souvenirs and perfume.
After lunch on board, sail on towards the temple at Gebel el-Silsila, with dinner served in the temple grounds, on a nearby island, or on the sun deck.
- 3
Breakfast at leisure, then sail to Kom Ombo to visit the Greco-Roman double temple, shared equally between the falcon god Haroeris and the crocodile god Sobek. Carry on sailing towards Aswan, taking in river life along the banks — water buffalo, donkeys and birdlife — mooring overnight close to the city.
- 4
After breakfast on board, spend the day exploring Aswan — the island Temple of Isis at Philae and the Aswan High Dam — with time to browse the Aswan souk. Return to the boat for your last evening and overnight in Aswan.
- 5
After breakfast, disembark and transfer to Aswan airport or railway station for your onward departure.
- 1
On arrival at Aswan airport or railway station, your Egyptologist guide takes you sightseeing in Aswan for the day — the island Temple of Isis at Philae and the Aswan High Dam, with time to browse the Aswan bazaar. In the afternoon you board your dahabiya and take lunch on deck as the boat sets sail for Kom Ombo, mooring there overnight.
- 2
Breakfast at your leisure, then visit the Greco-Roman temple at Kom Ombo — a perfectly symmetrical double temple with matching halls and sanctuaries dedicated to the falcon god Haroeris and the crocodile god Sobek.
Sail on to the quieter temple at Gebel el-Silsila, mooring alongside the rock-cut Speos of Horemheb; dinner is served in the temple grounds or on the sun deck, weather and mood permitting.
- 3
After breakfast, visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu by horse-drawn caleche — among Egypt's largest and best-preserved monuments, its entrance guarded by two granite falcon statues — then browse the bazaar for spices, souvenirs and perfume.
The dahabiya moors at a quiet island for a themed Egyptian evening: dinner by the riverbank or on the sun deck, Arabic music, and the option to dress in a gallabeya, before sailing gently on towards Esna overnight.
- 4
After breakfast, disembark at Esna and travel to Luxor for a sightseeing day — the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon and Karnak Temple — before your transfer to Luxor airport or railway station for departure.

Suited to
Is this for you?
Yes, if
- Choose the Musk Dahabiya if you want a short, quieter sailing experience on the Nile rather than the facilities and pace of a large cruise ship. It may suit couples, solo travellers and older children who enjoy river scenery and can manage boarding without confirmed step-free access.
Maybe not, if
- Choose a larger cruise ship if you want extensive onboard facilities, evening entertainment or confirmed accessibility features. The available details do not confirm the route, sailing hours or shore visits, so travellers planning around those should check before booking.

Accessibility
Who can join this
The Musk Dahabiya itinerary requires moderate mobility and is not fully wheelchair accessible. Boarding and leaving the vessel can involve 4 to 10 low wooden or gangway steps, depending on the landing point. Shore visits may include compacted sand, loose gravel and uneven ancient stone, with stairs that may have no handrails. Narrow companionways and cabin thresholds of around 5 to 15 centimetres can also be difficult to manage. We arrange assistance at the arrival airport and with luggage, but cannot guarantee a wheelchair ramp at every landing. Please contact us before booking if you use a wheelchair or mobility scooter so we can discuss the route and transfers.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The dahabiya uses its lateen sails for much of the Nile journey, which reduces engine use while sailing. Road transfers use air-conditioned minibuses, including Mercedes or Toyota vehicles for airport and shore journeys. Local suppliers include family-run cafes and licensed Egyptologists from Luxor and Aswan. Seafood and produce are sourced from regional markets when seasonally available. Crew work under local contracts and are paid in Egypt. Fuel used when motors reposition the vessel is logged to monitor consumption. Some visits are to managed archaeological sites, where visitor limits can help reduce wear on quarries and paths. Supplier details vary by departure; ask us when booking for the names available for your sailing.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01How far in advance should I book a Musk Dahabiya cruise?

This ensures availability, especially during peak travel seasons like winter sun.02Is the Musk Dahabiya suitable for families with children?
Yes, Musk Dahabiya offers a relaxed and engaging environment for families. Children aged 0-5.99 years travel free, and those 6-11.99 years pay 50% of the adult price. Children must share a cabin with parents; two or more children require a separate cabin.03Are all meals included on the Musk Dahabiya?
Yes, your Musk Dahabiya booking includes full board, covering lunch on your embarkation day through breakfast on your disembarkation day. This includes all chef-prepared meals served aboard.04What is the best time of year to sail on the Musk Dahabiya?
The most pleasant time for a Nile dahabiya cruise is typically from October to April, offering cooler temperatures and comfortable sailing conditions. While Musk Dahabiya operates year-round, the summer months can be very warm.05How many guests does the Musk Dahabiya accommodate?

Minya Dahabiya Nile Cruise
We operate small dahabiyas and do not run group bus tours; that keeps mornings and landings flexible. Unlike larger Nile cruise ships, this itinerary prioritises sailing time and evenings at village quays rather than fixed port turnarounds. Expect simpler cabins, occasional river noise and fewer onboard facilities during sail days. Arranged by Discovery Tours Egypt, a licensed Egyptian tour operator.

NileL’Orient Dahabiya
L'Orient Dahabiya sails from Luxor to Aswan, calling at Edfu, Kom Ombo, Gebel el Silsila and El Kab. You board after a short transfer to Esna, then settle on polished wood decks as the dahabiya slips south. Days combine private visits to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the twin temple of Sobek and Haroeris at Kom Ombo, painted tombs at El Kab, and the sandstone quarries and chapels at Gebel el Silsila. Evenings are calm, with an open-air riverside dinner option and time on deck to watch village life on the banks. We keep guest numbers to 8–14 aboard L'Orient Dahabiya, and we are a licensed Egyptian tour operator organising transfers and Egyptologist-led visits. Unlike larger motorised Nile boats, a dahabiya ties up at islands and small quays, allowing quieter evenings and closer contact with riverside communities.
NileAbydos Dahabiya
The Abydos Dahabiya typically accommodates 8–14 guests, so the pace is intimate and unhurried. Our Egyptologists lead every excursion, explaining inscriptions, temple architecture and local history at each stop. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange transfers in Luxor and Aswan. Unlike larger motor cruises, this route gives extended shore time at Gebel El Silsila and El Kab, and evenings often include riverside meals near quiet village landings. Trade-offs: cabins are compact and the programme is deliberately relaxed, so this is not a party vessel but a small-guest sailing experience focused on archaeology and village riverside life.
